To say that the Motion 2-in-1 5 Inch Shorts are simply “good” or that they do the job would be an understatement.

Over the years, I’ve owned training shorts from a range of well-known brands, including 2XU. They’ve all performed adequately. These, however, are a clear step above the rest.

So what sets them apart?

As the name suggests, these are true 2-in-1 shorts. The inner layer is a mesh compression liner that sits comfortably against the thighs, while the outer shell functions like a traditional pair of training shorts.

The real magic is in that inner compression mesh. It keeps the thighs and hamstrings warm and supported without the overly tight, restrictive feel of full-on compression gear. Think support and flexibility, not suffocation. It’s compression that works with your movement rather than against it.

This is especially noticeable in the summer months. Anyone who has wrestled with skin-tight compression clothing after breaking a sweat will appreciate this — these shorts slide off easily, even when you’re drenched.

The second standout feature is the zippered pockets.

Because the compression liner effectively carries the load, the outer shell pockets feel remarkably light. Carrying essentials like a phone, keys, or headphones doesn’t cause any dragging or bouncing.

For context, I carry an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and even with its size and weight, it never feels like it’s pulling the shorts down.

Excellent fit and comfort for walking .

Only gave 4 stars instead of 5 due to the shorts are a bit heavier weight than others l have used before. But still went fine for morning walks in Brisbane summer.
